(Updated for Spring 2026 – Tulip season in Sumner typically peaks from early to mid-April! If you’re dreaming of bright, flower-filled portraits, now’s the perfect time to start planning.)
Tulip season has officially arrived in the Pacific Northwest, and I couldn’t resist a trip out to one of my favorite local gems: Knutson Farms in Sumner, Washington. This charming, family-owned farm is quickly becoming one of the best spring photography locations near Seattle, perfect for family sessions, mini sessions, couples, maternity portraits, and seniors.
Between the colorful blooms, rustic farm charm, and warm spring air, it’s a photographer’s dream come true.
A Tulip-Filled Dream in Sumner 🌷
Knutson Farms is bursting with color, rows of tulips in every shade imaginable: pink, orange, yellow, and red. The colors look beautiful in person and even more magical through the camera lens.
For this visit, I wore a soft yellow dress that popped against the flowers, a color palette I always recommend to clients looking for that bright, cheerful spring photography aesthetic.
From rustic barns and tractors to vintage trucks framed by tulips, the variety of backdrops makes every session feel unique. Whether you’re after a vibrant editorial look or relaxed family photos, Knutson Farms tulip fields offer endless possibilities.

Family-Friendly & Full of Charm
Knutson Farms isn’t just a beautiful photo spot; it’s also incredibly family-friendly. Kids love exploring the flower rows, tractor displays, and open fields, making it easy to turn your photo session into a fun family outing.
While this visit was solo, I couldn’t help imagining Mommy & Me Minis or spring family sessions here next year. The combination of sunshine, laughter, and tulips would be perfect for parents who want portraits that feel joyful and natural.
If you loved the warm, connected energy of my Flaming Geyser State Park Motherhood Session, you’ll adore the relaxed atmosphere here too.
Why I Love Photographing Tulips
Tulips are one of my favorite spring subjects — they bring instant color, depth, and joy to portraits. Each row has a different energy: the deep red tulips feel romantic, while the pastel pinks create soft, dreamy tones.
If you’re planning a spring session, wear something that contrasts gently with the flowers (like white, yellow, or denim) and consider booking during golden hour; the warm evening light makes the colors absolutely glow.
