There’s something truly special about cherry blossom season in Seattle.
For just a short window each spring, the trees bloom in soft shades of pink, creating one of the most beautiful natural backdrops for photos. These cherry blossom mini sessions near Seward Park were a perfect reminder of how meaningful and fleeting this season is, and why it’s such a popular time for family and motherhood photography.
This year, I photographed three different sessions under one stunning tree along the waterfront, each one capturing a different stage of life, from multi-generational moments to young families and a newborn’s first spring.
WHY CHERRY BLOSSOM SESSIONS ARE SO SPECIAL
Cherry blossom season is incredibly short, often lasting just a couple of weeks depending on the weather. That limited window makes these sessions feel even more meaningful.
The soft color palette, delicate petals, and natural light create a timeless look that works beautifully for both family photos and senior portraits in Seattle and Tacoma.
If you’re thinking about booking your own session, I also share more ideas in my guide to the best cherry blossom photo locations in Seattle.
MOTHERHOOD MOMENTS IN BLOOM
One of the most meaningful parts of these sessions was capturing motherhood in different stages, from a brand new baby to growing families.
There’s something especially powerful about documenting these early moments. They pass quickly, but photos like these allow you to hold onto them.

PLAYFUL FAMILY MOMENTS
Cherry blossom sessions aren’t just about posed portraits, they’re also about capturing real connection.
With young children, especially, the best moments often happen in between poses. Movement, laughter, and interaction create images that feel natural and full of life.

MULTI-GENERATIONAL FAMILY PHOTOS
One of my favorite sessions from this set included three generations (grandmother, mother, and child) all together under the blossoms.
These sessions are incredibly special. They capture not just a moment in time, but a family legacy that will be priceless in the years to come.
NATURAL, CANDID MOMENTS
Some of the best images from these sessions came from simply letting families interact naturally.
Whether it’s laughter between parents, a child exploring, or a quiet moment between a mother and baby, these are the images that often mean the most.
