Graduation is a milestone worth celebrating, and there are few places more iconic for graduation photos than the beautiful campus of the University of Washington. From landmarks like Drumheller Fountain to the historic architecture featured in my Suzzallo Library graduation session, the UW campus offers an incredible variety of backdrops for graduation portraits.

This recent graduation session combined modern architecture, classic campus landmarks, and the excitement of commencement season to create a gallery that truly captured the graduate's achievement.

For graduates looking for University of Washington graduation photos, this session highlights why UW remains one of the best locations in Seattle for senior and graduation portraits.

Starting at the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health

We began the session at the Hans Rosling Center, one of the newer additions to the UW campus. The building's modern design, warm wood textures, and striking architectural details provided a professional and contemporary backdrop for graduation portraits.

The clean lines and unique features of the building created a variety of images that felt polished and sophisticated while still celebrating the excitement of graduation day. Portraits on the staircase, outside the building entrance, and alongside the building's signature design elements offered a modern contrast to some of the more traditional campus locations.

The graduate also incorporated graduation regalia, including a stole and honor cords, helping tell the story of years of dedication, hard work, and academic achievement.

Classic University of Washington Graduation Photos at Drumheller Fountain

No UW graduation session feels complete without a stop at Drumheller Fountain.

One of the most recognizable landmarks on campus, Drumheller Fountain provides beautiful views of the surrounding architecture and creates the perfect setting for graduation portraits. It's one of the reasons the University of Washington consistently appears on my list of the best graduation photo locations in Seattle and Tacoma. The bright summer weather and clear skies created a vibrant backdrop that emphasized the celebratory atmosphere of the session.

From traditional cap-and-gown portraits to fun candid moments, the fountain area offered a variety of opportunities to create images that felt both timeless and personal.

Celebrating with Cap and Gown Details

Graduation sessions are about more than simply documenting a milestone. They are about preserving memories that represent years of hard work and dedication. Incorporating meaningful locations, academic regalia, and personal interests can help create images that feel uniquely your own.

Throughout the session, we incorporated close-up details of the graduation cap, tassel, stole, and regalia. These smaller details often become some of the most meaningful images because they capture the symbols of the graduate's accomplishment.

Detail photographs also help add variety to a gallery and tell a more complete story of the graduation experience.

Natural Portraits Around Campus

In addition to the architectural and landmark locations, we also explored some of the green spaces around campus. These areas provided a softer, more natural look that balanced the urban and architectural elements of the session.

The combination of modern buildings, historic campus landmarks, open lawns, and iconic UW scenery allowed us to create a gallery with a wide variety of looks while staying within a single one-hour session.
