Graduation is one of life's biggest milestones, and there are few places more iconic for graduation photos than the University of Washington campus. This recent graduation session combined historic architecture, one of UW's most recognizable landmarks, and the beautiful open spaces of Rainier Vista to create a gallery that celebrated both academic achievement and the people who helped make it possible.
As part of the University of Washington's 151st Commencement, this graduate wanted portraits that highlighted the beauty of campus while also including meaningful photographs with family and loved ones.

Starting at Guggenheim Hall
We began the session outside Guggenheim Hall, one of the most recognizable academic buildings on campus.
The Gothic-style architecture and stone entrance provided a timeless backdrop that instantly says "University of Washington." With its detailed facade, symmetrical pathways, and classic collegiate feel, Guggenheim Hall is an excellent location for graduates who want portraits that emphasize their academic journey.
From close-up portraits to wider images showcasing the building's architecture, this location offered a variety of looks while keeping the focus on the graduate and the significance of commencement day.

Celebrating at Drumheller Fountain
After Guggenheim Hall, we made our way to Drumheller Fountain, one of the most photographed locations on the University of Washington campus.
The fountain's iconic water feature, surrounding architecture, and expansive views create a backdrop that instantly feels like graduation season at UW. The bright summer weather and clear skies added to the celebratory atmosphere as we captured both traditional portraits and more playful graduation moments.
Cap-and-gown portraits near the fountain remain a favorite for many graduates because they combine the excitement of commencement with one of the most recognizable locations on campus.
The fountain also provided the perfect setting for documenting the graduate's accomplishment as part of UW's historic 151st graduating class.

Including Family and Loved Ones
One of the most meaningful parts of this session was incorporating photographs with the graduate's loved ones.
Graduation isn't only about earning a degree. It's also about recognizing the support system that helped make that achievement possible. Throughout the session, we captured portraits with both the graduate's mother and partner, creating images that celebrate not only academic success but also the relationships that made the journey possible.
These family photographs often become some of the most treasured images from a graduation session because they preserve a moment that only happens once.

Rainier Vista Graduation Portraits
Our final stop was the open lawn and pathways surrounding Rainier Vista, one of the most beautiful green spaces on campus.
The expansive lawns, tree-lined pathways, and classic UW scenery created a softer, more natural look that balanced the architecture-heavy portions of the session. These images offered a different feel while still keeping the unmistakable University of Washington atmosphere.
The open space also allowed for relaxed portraits with family members and candid moments that felt genuine and personal.
By combining Guggenheim Hall, Drumheller Fountain, and Rainier Vista, we were able to create a diverse gallery without ever leaving campus.
